The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has awarded CGI a three-year contract for hosting services as part of the Future IT Sourcing (FITS) programme.
The contract, which according to the original tender was estimated to be worth between £54m and £78m, is for the hosting tower under FITS, which was split into two separate requirements for hosting services and data centre services.
Requirements under the hosting services contract include the provision, installation, maintenance and operation of ICT systems to deliver centralised hosting, as well as providing a data centre local area network (LAN) for hosting services, an ITIL service wrap, and possibly the inter data centre wide area network (WAN).
According to the original tender, the hosting supplier will also be responsible for managing data centre services, on behalf of MoJ, so as to deliver an end-to-end hosting service. The MoJ is contracting separately for the data centre services, which are likely to include data centre space from at least two locations, fittings (structure cabling, cabinets, cages, racking), facility services (e.g. cooling, power, physical security etc.) and facilities for the hosting supplier (e.g. storage, office space).
According to the tender, the three-year contract has an option for the MoJ to extend by two further 12-month periods.
A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said: “Following a competitive process CGI has been awarded a contract to provide the Ministry of Justice with hosting services for a period of up to three years. CGI will provide hosting services to approximately 90,000 users across the MoJ estate.
“We are transforming our IT contracts to ensure they provide the best possible value for taxpayers. We anticipate this and other reforms to the current cost of delivering ICT services will save taxpayers more than £100m every year.”
